Copper
Flashing, gutters and caps in copper, formed by hand
Copper does the quiet work on an old roof. We make valleys, step flashing, gutter liners, downspouts and caps in the shop and on the roof, solder every seam, and fit each piece to the building rather than to a catalog.

Good to know
Questions copper work raises
It changes color
New copper is bright. It weathers to brown and then to green on its own, and we do not coat it unless you ask.
Metals touch with care
Copper next to bare steel or aluminum corrodes them. We choose fasteners and neighbors to keep metals apart.
Seams are soldered
Sealant dries out. A soldered seam is made once, and a repair is a new solder joint, not another bead.
Built-in gutters need care
Older houses carry gutters built into the cornice. We inspect and line them, and tell you what the roof above is doing to them.

Caps, cupolas and the small pieces
A cupola or a turret takes its character from its copper. We repair or remake the cap, the finial socket and the flashing around the base, and we match the form from your photographs or the commission's file.
